One Laptop Per Child Canada Launch

On Wednesday, September 29th, 2010, The Belinda Stronach Foundation, in partnership with Vale, BMO Financial Group and the Government of Ontario, launched the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Canada program in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Belinda Stronach Foundation announced it will distribute up to 5,000 laptops to children aged 6-12 in Aboriginal communities across Canada.  OLPC Canada Launch speakers included: The Honourable Chris Bentley, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs (Ontario); Pauline Decontie, Elder; Mary Simon, President, ITK; Clément Chartier, President, MNC; Mark Travers, Executive Vice President, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Base Metals, Vale; and The Honourable Belinda Stronach. Shawn Atleo, National Chief, AFN sent his welcome address via video, and the Master of Ceremonies was Clint Davis, President, Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. Six First Nation, Métis and Inuit children aged 6-12 were on hand to demonstrate the XO laptop and share their views about how it can help them.  The OLPC Canada launch received nation-wide media coverage with 28 million media impressions!
